Commitment

February 28, 2022 by Carol C. Filed Under: Blog 2 Comments

Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun” (Psalm 37:5-6, NASB).

Many people today do not like the thought of commitment. Whether it’s to a spouse, a job, or just a goal, the thought of committing for a period of time seems to scare people. Perhaps it’s the instability of a pandemic, uncertainty of the future, or any number of other reasons that frightens them. But God calls on us to commit, not to a cause or a job, but to Him.

I’m trying to be more intentional about commitment, first and foremost, to God. I’ve been asking Him to help me to bless others and to give me opportunities to share His love, His joy, and His peace. In return, God recently nudged me to prepare a meal for someone who is ill. I recently befriended a neighbor and realized he has trouble stretching his income. We’re going to develop a workable budget. Long lines at the grocery store are providing opportunities to engage in conversations – even with a six-foot separation and a mask. Overworked cashiers appreciate a friendly greeting and a heartfelt word of thanks and blessing.

Recently I started working from home for our church. I’ve talked on the phone with people who have lost loved ones and need a word of comfort. I’ve spoken with some who are hungry, both for food and for friendship. And I’ve opened my arms to numerous people who just need a hug.

I want to allow the light of Jesus to shine through me. I want others to know the peace of Jesus, to feel His love, and to experience His joy. And I think that all begins with commitment, trusting God to direct my steps and my words.

Commit your day to God,
obey Him and be awed
by wondrous things He’ll do
to bless others through you.
