God’s Comfort

April 5, 2021 by Carol C. Filed Under: Blog 5 Comments

2 Corinthians 1:5A few months ago, I joined an online writers’ group with the intention of having some writing fun in my retirement and learning from others. I had no idea that God had another plan in mind. As I began reading posted writings, as well as the comments and reviews, I started noticing a few Christians. Soon I was asked to join a group of writers who sometimes post about how God is working in their lives, a way of sharing their faith.

As I reviewed poems and stories, I saw the hurt and pain in other people’s lives. Deep depression following a divorce, loss of a spouse, death of a child – these are a few of the things writers have shared. I’ve been able to respond with the hope and comfort of Jesus.

Ever since our grandson Josiah died at eight months of age, I’ve been noticing how God has used others to bring me comfort and peace. In 2 Corinthians 1:3-5, God promises to comfort us so that we can comfort others. God sent people to wrap their arms around me and pray for me. He led our family to conference speakers who shared God’s hope from Scripture. But I never expected that a writers’ group would be an avenue for me to share God’s comfort with strangers. It is Jesus’ death on the cross and His resurrection three days later that makes it possible for us to experience God’s hope, peace, and comfort. So I want to share an Easter poem.

        Life Anew

They hastened to the tomb on Sunday morn,
To lay His body properly to rest,
Anoint with myrrh and spices, grief expressed.
Friend gone, their empty hearts forlorn.

The heavy stone no more concealed the tomb.
An angel greeted them with joyful song:
“Remember what He promised all along.
Why look for one who’s raised with hopeless gloom?”

Confusion, fear and worry, faith and dread,
Their sadness resonates from inner strife.
The One who died has risen to new life,
His thorns exchanged for kingly crown instead.

Then go with joy, the message to proclaim:
“He’s risen! Hasten! Come with us, and see!”
His rising means that all will bow the knee –
He comes again, His kingdom to reclaim!

The alleluia song will ring anew,
His children rise to meet Him in the air.
With conquered death, and freed of Satan’s snare,
He claims His bride, our spirits to renew.

God often speaks to us through people who are willing to speak in His behalf. It’s exciting that he’s using you and what you’ve gone through to minister to others. Thanks for sharing.
