Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. … Then the trees of the forest will sing, they will sing for joy before the Lord, for he comes to judge the earth.” I Chronicles 16:9 and 33
When David’s men moved the ark of the covenant to Jerusalem, he asked that the Levites play their instruments and sing joyful songs. It must have been quite a celebration with shouting, blowing of rams’ horns and trumpets, crashing cymbals, and the music of lyres and harps. King David presented a psalm of praise to the Lord (I Chron. 16) that day, and called on the heavens to rejoice, the sea to resound, the fields to be jubilant, and all the trees of the forest to sing before the Lord.
God reminded Job (38:4-8) that the morning stars sang together and the angels shouted for joy at creation. Can you imagine the melody of praise that rang from the stars? It was not long ago that oceanographers first heard the singing of humpback whales. As we are reminded in the old hymn, “All nature sings, and round me rings the music of the spheres.”
What a privilege we have been given to sing, praise, and make music before the Lord. He delights in our praise, whether in word or song. Do we remember to freely praise Him? If all of nature honors Him, why would we withhold our praise?
“Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing:
To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power for ever and ever!” Revelation 6:13
Let’s not wait until we reach Heaven to start praising God!
He is worthy of our prayers of praise.
