The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance (Psalm 16:6, NIV)
I have friends who work with the JESUS film. If you don’t know about it, in 1979 the film was made based on the Gospel of Luke. Since that time, the film has been translated into 2,227 languages and been shown all over the world, in remote villages and big cities. Through this ministry, over 22 million people have made decisions to follow Jesus. What a wonderful outreach! (www.jesusfilm.org)
This leads me to think of those who still have not heard the message that Jesus died for our sins; and of those now gone who never heard the Gospel. How many lost souls must that be?
Yet, many of us, especially in this country, have been blessed to know Jesus and His redemptive work on the cross. I almost take for granted having grown up in a Christian family and knowing Jesus from an early age. I know that God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him (John 3:16-17, ESV). But how can they believe if they have never heard?
So why me, Lord? Why did you bless me with the choice to follow You, when there are others who have never heard of Your love and sacrifice for our sins? Why not the entire world?
I don’t know the answer to these questions, but God is sovereign, and He has a reason and a plan. Meanwhile, I rejoice that, even though I don’t know why, God has chosen to reveal His Son to me. Thank you, Father. And I continue to pray that more and more people will be saved through the Gospel message.
