My Faith During a Pandemic
It’s 2000-something and I’m at my first ever women’s retreat. We’re playing fellowship BINGO where we run around the room looking for people that fit the description for each letter. Much to my chagrin, I did not win BINGO that day, but I certainly won a bigger prize.
Continue ReadingWaiting for God’s Comfort
I’ve often wondered how much time the average person spends in waiting during a lifetime. We expect to wait at a doctor’s office; we wait in carpool lines to pick up children or grandchildren; we stand in long lines at amusement parks.

Are you ready for a new year? A fresh beginning? A clean start? I love opening the pages to my new planner each year full of clean empty pages, full of hope and possibility.
Continue ReadingFaith in Light of Covid-19
I know of no one who was not impacted by Covid-19 in his or her life. For some of us, Covid had a significant impact on our faith.
Continue ReadingCelebrating God’s Will in Advent
During the season of Advent, Christians across the world prepare for the celebration of the birth of God’s Son, Jesus Christ. Advent is a time to celebrate light in the midst of darkness. The Gospel of Luke chapters 1 and 2 provide a rich context for us to draw inspiration from as we use this […]

I was aware that my particular type of cancer had a tendency to recur, so I was not shocked, just disappointed; but also grateful that I was under the care of a knowledgeable and vigilant physician who was right on top of things. I resumed my former course of treatment, which was relatively benign as far as chemotherapy side effects are concerned. Okay. We’ve got this.
Continue ReadingThat Hideous Strength
Once upon a time, all the people in the world were united in one effort. Really though. One people, one nation, one goal: a tall building.
As many of us who have read about the tower of Babel (Genesis 11:1-9) know, world peace was short-lived. God confused the languages of man, making construction plans impossible.
Continue ReadingOverblessed
I’ve been using the made-up term ‘overblessed’ to describe the past few months.
You could use the term to describe the effects of one event, but I like to think of it as a state of being. I know it sounds kind of goofy, but I think that makes it even better. I didn’t even think of it at the time I started saying it, but it’s really just a one-word version of Psalm 23:5: you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows” (ESV).
