Have you ever sat down with every intention of getting something done, only to stare blankly at the wall? The ideas seem far away, the motivation is nowhere to be found, and even the simplest task feels overwhelming. If you have, welcome to the club.
Lately, I have found myself struggling with a lack of motivation. It is frustrating because there are things I want to accomplish, words I want to write, and goals I want to reach. Yet sometimes my mind feels empty and my energy feels low.
What I am learning is that motivation is not always something we can wait for. Sometimes we have to move forward even when we do not feel inspired. More importantly, we have to remember that our worth is not measured by what we do.
When I feel stuck, I remind myself that even in the quiet seasons, God is still working. Just because I cannot see progress does not mean growth is not happening. Some of the most important work happens beneath the surface.
The Bible says in Galatians 6:9 (NIV), “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” That verse speaks directly to seasons of discouragement. It reminds us that perseverance matters. The harvest may not be visible today, but that does not mean it is not coming.
I also find comfort in knowing that Jesus understands what it means to be weary. Throughout His ministry, there were times when He stepped away to pray and rest. If Jesus valued moments of renewal, perhaps we should give ourselves permission to do the same.
Another verse that encourages me is Isaiah 40:31(NIV): “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.” Maybe lack of motivation is not always a sign that we are failing. Maybe sometimes it is an invitation to slow down, reconnect with God, and trust Him with the next step. Not every season is meant for sprinting. Some seasons are meant for resting or learning or preparing.
Today, if you are feeling unmotivated, discouraged, or stuck, remember that you do not have to have everything figured out. Take the next small step, pray the next prayer, and trust God with the rest.
