In this series we introduce the topic of using God’s word in everyday life, and some practical ways we can do that. We talk a little bit about the importance of memorizing scripture and some memory maximizing tips.
Remember, God honors when we work to hear Him and understand Him better. Jeremiah 33:3 says “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know” and Acts 17:27 reminds us He wants to be found! It says “God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.” He will honor our work in memorizing His word by blessing that process. Even if you are not someone who finds memorization easy, we encourage you to dive in and see how the Lord will work in you.
Our core verse for this broadcast is Ephesians 6:10-17, which describes the importance of using God’s word as well as the “armor” that God equips us with for our battles here on earth. The link to the homework for this series is below.
In Part Two we continue with the concept of how and when we might use God’s Word in everyday life. We start by how we sometimes carelessly use God’s name in vain, which reminds us that we have to sort out our words in general even as we try to use God’s words more powerfully. We cover the importance of memorizing scripture, for our own use and for use when we comfort or advise others. We mention a few scriptures in this context, Jeremiah 33:3 and Micah 7:8. Then we move to this week’s core scripture, 1 Cor 2:13 and using God’s word as we are directed by the Holy Spirit.
Towards the end of this broadcast we begin a group workshop on how to find relevant scripture for whatever we have going on in our life. This exercise will help us learn how, in the most practical way, to use God’s Word in everyday life. We used the resource “Where to find it in the Bible” by Ken Anderson, and strongly recommend this resource for your home library.
In Parts Three and Four we study how to find relevant scripture for whatever we have going on in our life. This exercise will help us learn how, in the most practical way, to use God’s Word in everyday life. We used the book “Where to find it in the Bible” by Ken Anderson, and strongly recommend this resource for your home library. For this workshop, we start by reading through some scripture ‘staples’ which are verses from the Bible that can potentially cover many situations and circumstances in our lives. They are listed in the homework, link above.
We hope that you find some relevant scripture in this workshop to use in your life right now!
A few other verses that came up but are not in the homework are: 1 Timothy 4:8 and Ephesians 2:10.
*This ministry starts as a Bible study recorded in Holly’s house. We love the intimacy that creates and hope you feel the comradery between us. However, the recording equipment we used during this particular series (early in the life of the ministry) picked up the dog barking…a lot. We extend our apologies for that sound quality issue. Maybe we will put his picture and bio on the page next time, he sure had a lot to say. You can check out the blog ‘The Faith of my Dog’ for more on Max the dog. He’s noisy but he’s a great guy.
