Somehow the practice of fasting in preparation for Lent has become a bit mainstream, a bit self indulgent. We hear a lot of ‘What are you giving up for Lent’ and the response is chocolate or sweets or some other diet driven answer. Really? Honestly, I don’t think Jesus cares if you like chocolate.

As I shifted pots and took a closer look, I realized a green crayon had melted around and underneath the burner. My 3 year old great-nephew filled the house with lots of noise, running and jumping, calling out to various family members, drumming with chop sticks on an old pie plate. But the best was hearing him sing. He sang Go Tell It on the Mountain in church on Christmas Eve.
